Ipoh is the capital city of Perak state. Architecturally, the city centre is characterised by Straits eclectic shop houses. There are several impressive historical buildings from the British Colonial era.
In the past, parts of Ipoh used to specialise in recycling industry. However, they have been relocated to the downtown area, hence the citizen gradually forgotten the art of recycling.

Upcycling Artist Colony intends to solve the issue about art in Ipoh, at the same time serves as a hub that gathers a variety of artists. It provides the resources as a media for the artists by collecting recycled or used materials from the surrounding district. As the public is the contributor of the resources for the artwork, appreciation of art among the citizen could be invoked.

Green Buffer
The colours on the vertical elements are the focal point that attracts the attention of the people, at the same time creates a visual connection between each floor levels. Expanded metal mesh panels that wraps around the building. This allows mediation between the requirements of security, privacy, viewing, ventilation and natural lighting. Its semi-transparent materiality also integrates the indoor spaces with the external environment.
Painting Workshop
The art of turning an old materials into a new purpose objects or artwork, is corresponding to the site where it is between the old and new town. Getting materials from the public invoke the awareness of environment sustainability and appreciation to the value of the things around.
