THE HIVE

No bees no food. Our food production relies on the interaction of blossom and bees.  Honeybees play an important role in the ecosystem and the sustainability of the food supply chain. They are the key to the pollination of the agriculture crops which ultimately produces one third of the food that we eat, and so ensure the food security. However, in the recent years, the population of bees is declining as they are under the threat of diseases and pesticides. Hence, a honeybee learning centre is complemented to the urban farm in order to educate the public on the importance of the bees in the food industry and ecosystem to the public. The learning centre provides information and promotes learning activities to the general public from all ages for both beekeeping and urban farming. The urban beekeeping farm raises the awareness of the relationship between bees, human and nature.

Food waste from the honey production process such as royal jelly, pollen, beeswax and propolis, are extracted and collected for packaging, which would be then sold to the other commercial manufacturers. As a part of the learning centre, a workshop is located to educate and allow the involvement of the public in making the bee products like soap and candles.
